Tonights challenge for one of the turners meetings I attend was to do captive rings.
So a few days ago I made this goblet out of the green apple that I scored the other day.
If you look close you can see that the wood moved a fair bit as it dried out but none the less I like the piece.
stands 8 1/2"h x 3 1/2" at it's widest.

Looks like you are off to a great start. Rings look very good. I have never had much luck turning green wood to final thickness.

Good job John, do you use a special tool to cut the rings?

Well, you are ahead of me! I have never attempted them. On another note - nice looking goblet! Apple is such an interesting wood - seems to always have character.

Nice work John, I would like to see a higher res photo if you have one.

You guys and gals just pile on the inspiration.

Thanks!

You did good! Most of the apple that I have turned... cracked while drying! Hope you have better luck!!

Good looking goblet John! I have never tried one...or the rings either!

Nice looking goblet, I've used captive rings on a few projects and always had fun doing so, maybe I should do so again, it has been a while.

Thanks all for the comments, this isn't something that I think I will be doing lot's off as it was just done for the presidents challenge at the club, but ... it's nice to know that I can do it.
