My batteries are shot and I need new ones. At $80 a pop I thought I would see if any of you know a place that sells them cheaper. I'm looking for the 14.4v 2.6a pod batteries.

Also, how often do you change your motor brushes?

+1 on MTO Battery. They rebuild both my Porter-Cable & DeWalt batteries. The batteries came back better than new OEM and cheaper too.

I have three Makita drills. I have had two of them for 12 years and I use them almost every day. I finally had to replace the 12 year old Nicad batteries this year at a cost of $22 per battery pack. I have never changed the brushes.

Batteries Plus will rebuild your battery packs...better than new...for quite reasonable prices.

Buying new batteries or rebuilding old ones is not practical. Battery technology has improved so much in the last few years that you are better off buying a new set of tools. The bulk of the cost is in the batteries and for almost what you will pay to replace them you can get an entirely new set of Lithium ions. For example the Makita 18v LiOn Drill and an Impact Driver with charger and two batteries for $199 will out perform anything that takes those 14.4s, will be lighter weight, recharge faster, run longer without the slow drop off in performance during discharge and have a built in LED (that you will wonder how you ever lived without it).

It may be hard to get used to the idea that the tools are disposable but that is the economic reality. Your 14.4 tools are not worth spending money on.
