Hi all,
A neighbor guy came by the other day with a Stanley 112 scraper plane. Pretty good condition but will need the usual cleaning up and tuning. The blade is about used up on it though.
Wants 100.00 for it. Told him I would think about it.

Now LN sells the cabinet scraper plane based on the Stanley 85 for 195.00. A smaller plane then the 112 but then it would be pretty much good to go out of the box.

From a $$ standpoint if I take the neighbors. Add a Hock blade then I’ll be around 130 or so. But will have a bigger plane to work with. So the price difference is not really a major issue.

What is your advice? Or should I simply forget the whole thing??

These will be users.

The Lee Valley version of the # 112 is $129..I would do that. It has some improvenents over the original. I have the LN 112 ...it is nice, probably not better than LV version...and more $$$

Mark,
Thanks for the advice. That is an option I had not even thought of. After looking at the LV site that may indeed be the best deal of them all.
