I have the chance to purchase a jet Model JWBS-18QT-3 bandsaw. This is the 3hp model. It is near new condition for $1200.00.

My question is do I by the used jet or get the 18" Rikon that is on sale through today at WC for $1200.00 delivered?

What are your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks

I would rather have that newer redesigned Jet w/3hp over the Rikon, BUT I do think the Jet is overpriced... A 50/50 choice at the current sale price of the Rikon and the slightly high price of the used Jet...

I am leaning towards the Jet myself. It goes for $1899.00 brand new plus shipping. $1200 is not a good price for a like new bandsaw?

Jet goes on sale 15% off fairly regularly, in fact it just was on sale. So they were selling for just over $1600 two weeks ago and Jet and PM include liftgate shipping in their price. That saw was selling routinely for under $1500 shipped in the last couple of years so if the buyer was a savy buyer he is only taking a $300 hit. $1000 max in my book (and that would be pushing it unless I needed a saw right now), I can buy a whole lot of used bandsaw for $1200.

For $1200 you really can buy a VERY good used bandsaw. Offer $1000 and see if he bites.

i have an 18" jet band saw. buy the rikon and skip all the misery i encountered. the tech support of rikon is head and shoulders above that of WMH tool group, which owns jet, powermatic and wilton. on it's best day, jet's techies deliver support that doesn't measure up to the worst tech support from rikon. when i get around to it, i'll sell the jet to some wanna be woodworker tool snob and buy a rikon. just my $.02.:)

Passed on both saws. Going to start a new post.

Thanks Creekers.
