I'm 55% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.

Several of my answers were not typical of where I live. Be sure to not check the other answers, because the result will be different if you do.

I took this here while back and got 97% Dixie. I personally think the question that caused me to not be 100% was flat dab wrong. But I can't remember what it was.

60% Dixie....Well, I've lived everywhere so I guess that figgers.

I'm a little depressed now- I only scored 52% Dixie! I've lived all my life in NC and now in Alabama. Maybe working for Yankee companies for the last ten years has rubbed off too much. I work in sales and I guess I've become so neutral to be able to relate to all my customers around the country. But I had no idea. I have always considered myself very Southern.

"40% (Yankee). A definitive Yankee." That's what the test said. Some of the terms I've never heard - a "poke" as a thing to put groceries in, for example.

52% Dixie  ...go figure.....I guess the 6 years I lived in Mississippi, Georgia, south Texas and South Carolina had an effect!

For the record, I scored 38% Yankee, though many of the explanations pegged me to the Great Lakes area (hmmm...I'm from Michigan...) Of course, I've tried to watch my accent ever since I was 11. My uncle was visiting us in Madison, IN (on the Ohio River, practically in KY) from WI, and after I had only been there a year, he thought I had a Southern accent. Never mind his goofy Norwegisconsin accent...:D

I must say that every time I go to my sister's in Alabama, I have to stop for gas in TN--and I have a heck of a time understanding the cashiers at the gas stations. I never was very good at marbles...:D

Im 52% Dixie, but just barely.

I guess that means I'm from the Midwest.

For those of you questioning your score, just remember this test is a "HAA-vaard" computer dialect test. That should say something.;)

I SCORED 112% DIXIE

Geez, I wonder why we almost scored the same:

Well, I suppose being from the country you are, Ian, being 64% Dixie is better than being Yankee!! :D (You guys have gotten over that little skirmish we had 230 years ago, haven't you? ;) )

I'm 76% Dixie, which is somewhat surprising considering that I was born and raised until the age of 12 in Kansas. Of course, I've been in Texas MUCH longer than that.

I thought it interesting that the test focused mostly on phrasing and on touched pronunciation in a few areas. Some southern phrases and usages I have consciously adopted because I liked them. Some have simply crept into my vocabulary. But my pronunciation is still basically mid-western.

42% Yankee.

And I can see that Bud Light apparently enhances the Dixie genes based on Ken's post... ;)

My result:

"91% (Dixie). Is General Lee your father?"

I'm a fourth generation Floridian and my ancestors lived in Alabama and South Carolina before that. I can speak either Southern or Yankee depending on the circumstances.

Southern accents are not very common here in Central Florida. When we visit the in-laws in Pensacola I really have to concentrate to understand what folks are saying. I can't believe I ever sounded like that but I'm sure I did.

64% Dixie. I've been in MD most of my life. Just about every answer I gave said "Common throughout the US". I think selecting Coke as my generic term for carbonated beverages put me over the edge though.

Almost all my responses indicated that my replies were either Great Lakes, Midwest or Chicago (I consider myself to be from all three), yet, I came up 51% dixie.

Jason,

If you are referring to the war of northern aggression, it was 140 years ago, and no, it is not forgotten.

What a phony test - 58% Dixie - right!!

Actually, my paternal grand father lived way, way, way back on a moutain top in South Carolina.

Nope--Ian is from "across the Pond", so "Dixie" probably has little meaning to him, but "Yankee" would be a whole different story.

So who do you know that still remembers that war? :D

74% Dixie.
That figures, lived in Tennessee except for 10 years during which time I was Stationed in Texas, Arizona, Southern California, Southern Japan and South Korea.

I'm usually on the "neader" side of this forum, but didn't have much to do this morning so I'm "browsing".

I've lived in NW PA all my life, yet scored a 61% Dixie rating! Dang, I'm Sicilian with Irish longings and have studied the American Civil War for more years than I care to count (from a Northern perspective).

Now I find I'm really a Southerner!

I grew up(some would disagree) in New Jersey; but left after college and have been in Texas for almost 40 years. The relatives back East say I sound like a red-neck Texan; but, apparently, only the accent has rubbed off......the test says 37% Yankee??? :D :D :D

Jason - Our military intelligence is better prepared than you think. We have all watched "Gone with the Wind" more times than you can imagine so we know all about your recent regional conflict. :)

56% Dixie. Born in Chicago, grew up in S. Florida, now living in St. Louis.

I am a damnyankee according to my BILs, only acceptable because I'm into woodworking, went to UF and married their sister - not necessarily in that order...

Born and raised in Alabama. Lived in the deep south all my life except for 7 years back in the early 70's in southern Ohio. Yet I'm only 95% Dixie!!
