I have two Stanley planes; a low angle and standard block plane. The numbers stamped on the side are G12-060 and GT12-020 respectively. What are the "model numbers"? Stanely #1, Stanley #101, etc. Thanks guys.

The Stanley model number system is about as organized as you might expect from a manufacturer trying to make some money. The collectible Stanley planes were made from about 1870 through 1960--a ninety year span--and covers dozens of model numbers. I find Sellen's book on Stanley planes to be a good reference. On line, try the superiorworks.com site that Patrick Leach has for his Blood and Gore opus. It is both informative and entertaining to boot. Good luck with your plane collecting.
