Anyone suggest a nice shop apron they like? I would like to find a long apron to keep the sawdust off. Guess I will need to order one, the local box stores only have these little dingy short ones.

Lie-Nielsen makes a nice one.

I like this one:

It's a bit costly, but I don't intend to buy one every week. The leather gives a good bit of protection from sharp or flying objects that you may accidentally run into.

I spent a good deal of time looking and researching. I settled on the Tormek. here is a link at highland (http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/tormek-cabinetmaker-apron.aspx).

It crosses on the back, ties in the front, has covers on the lower pockets, and 3 pen/pencil pockets on the breast. I keep it loaded with 3 markers, tape measure and utility knife. It has a long pocket for the old folding rule I'll eventually score off EBay and an additional breast pocket that holds the Woodpecker pocket rule that Tom dug up for me! i track much less dust into the house and spend lots less time looking for my markers and tape measure now.

I have a leather one too but the canvas type are nice and light so I reach for it a bit more often, especially in the warmer months.

Since I'm a Tormek owner, +1 on the Tormek apron. It's nice, but has no hammmer loop. BUT having that hammer on 1 side of the apron is annoying. Bangs a lot of things too. Since most of my jeans have a hammer loop, I don't miss it.

I use a canvas apron that my dear mother made for me. I think it is time for version 2.0. Time to call mom.

My Wife got her sister to make me a really great denim shop apron that was actually sized to fit me, then before I ever got into the shop with it, I lost 168 pounds (so far) so now I have a nice denim tent...

Although maybe not as long as you might want, I like this one:

+1 on the Rockler one. The way the straps go criss cross across your shoulders and buckles mid back its very comfortable.

If you are looking for something long to keep the dust off (Not to hold a bunch of tools) This one from Ace Hardware is hard to beat for the price. They have them in store around here. I am average size and it hits at the knees or close to it. Hard to see in the photo but has a pocket to keep safety glasses or whatever.

The Rockler replaced a Woodcraft. Both have cross back straps rather than over the neck stranglers. Several pockets for adequate storage of pencils, rulers, etc. Some of the long leather aprons seem to be geared for turners as they cover a broad area seeming to anticipate a lot of chips coming back at you.

Hey fellows, thanks for all the good suggestions. I'll sift through these and make a purchase. For some reason the wife doesn't not like sawdust laden clothes in the house.

That must be a woman thing, mine feels the same way. Personally I think it adds character to the house :)

Mine was first week of May last year. I'm probably pretty close to as low as I'll get without some "cosmetic" work.

Get a labrador retriever, will be hard to notice sawdust because of all that hair everywhere.

I have two aprons. One is a simple lightweight cotton Craftsman apron with two large pockets at the bottom and one narrow one and one for pencils at the top. My other one, and my favorite, is from Bucket Boss. It is canvas with modified cross-back straps, and a total of 16 - count 'em - 16 pockets of various shaps & sizes.

Might help if you can come up with a list of things that the apron has to have. For me I had three things

1. crisscross straps across the back
2. length near the knee
3. tie in the front

There were other things I wanted (chest pockets for pencils, flap covers for lower pockets) but those were the 3 things that were the difference between happy and miserable for me.
