This is another of my experiments in simple form. Maple, 12” high x 11 ¾” diameter x mostly 3/8” thick. Sanded to 320 grit, it was finished with Seal-A-Cell and Wipe-On Poly. All cracks were filled with CA and sanded before applying finish.

As always, your opinions, comments and critiques are welcomed!

Thanks for looking!

Good job Steve. Simple forms are at times most pleasing to the eye. How do you prevent the CA from staining 1/4" on each side of the crack? Preseal the surrounding area?

Great looking form, Steve! I am very taken with the spherical shape transitioning into an more open form at the top. I don't know how i missed the curly maple vase but that is very nice too!

Steve, this one came out looking good! I like the soft finish you are using on these larger forms - seems to enhance their appearance. This one is rather a unique form (from my limited exposure!), and as David commented, and interesting take on the spherical thing.

With that big ol' Beauty, you may end being individually responsible for a spike in the price of maple! By my best guesstimate, you consumed close to 10 board feet in that sucker!

Nice wood and finish Steve, but something about the shape just don't appeal to me for some reason. Good job turning and finishing anyway.

You asked for comments and critiques... I like the continuous curve of the bottom section. I find turning spheres to be challenging and you've done a really good job with that. However, the whole thing is too top heavy for my tastes and I don't see a rule-of-thirds that typically appeals to me.

Bt that's just me.

For some reason Steve, I think the wood is a bit blah...I like the little flair at the lip...it would have been easy to leave it straight. Good touch. The size is impressive! Must be a little unnerving but you sure did well!

Great curve with a useful shape Steve! So what are you going to store in it? Or is it for beanbag toss with the grandkids?:)

Thanks for all the comments everyone - I do appreciate it! I understand that this is not traditional - in any sense of the word - and that it will have limited appeal. Still, it only takes one person to like it enough to buy it! Will keep my fingers crossed that actually happens someday!

Steve,

I really like these simple forms. Sometimes less is more.

Another nice one Steve! Nice curves on the spherical section and I also like the little flair at the rim. Like John, I also like the soft finish with this form and wood combo.
