We have a lot of African Mahogany at work. I cut off the end of a 12/4 board and tried something larger that my last little unknown wood bowl. Nothing special with the wood but it was fun turning something large, and since the wood isn't that nice or expensive it will be a "user" fruit bowl that my wife won't worry about banging around. There were an awful lot of shavings on the floor from this blank. It turns pretty clean. I got a lot of gouge practice on this one. 13 1/4" dia. x 3 1/6" tall.

The very clean interior curve makes this a winner.

Nice form in the bowl and a nice piece of wood. What kind of work do you do that you have waste like that.:D

...since the wood isn't that nice ...Deane, I beg to differ on that!! That piece actually has a very warm color, and the grain shows very well in this simple form. Nice work!

that one is a winner Deane............nice form on it and the bowl just begs to be used in a practical way in a home environment. I think you did a very nice piece here!

I really like this bowl. It is so simple and clean. "Unpretentious" might be the best word. And not at all afraid to be used. I have yet to make one of these. A "real, useful" bowl. Excellent!

This is what bowls are all about! 2lb bag of M&M's will fit nicely! Would a better profile shot be out of the question...seems to have a nice curve to the foot.

If done right, the simplest designs are often the most elegant. That word definitely comes to mind on this one Deane!

Beautiful bowl Deane! Despite what you said, I think the wood is very nice, it's got a very nice warm color and the simple form shows it well. As Baxter said, elegant comes to mind with this one.

Great form and lovely wood. Perfect combination. That's gonna be some lucky fruit that gets to reside in that bowl............

Beautifully done and I agree with the others who think you sell the wood short! That's a real keeper!
