question for PM54A 6" jointer owners, what is the max board width you can joint when you skew the fence to face joint figured woods? Looking at some pictures on the web, it "looks" like the skewed fence reduces the max width that can be face jointed....any feedback appreciated. Thanks.

I suppose you could skew the fence and measure it yourself.
Yes, it reduces the width.

The more you skew the more capacity you lose. You can also try dampening the wood with water and it may reduce or eliminate the need to skew the board.

I wouldn't worry too much about losing width. My 1930s Wallace has a head with skewed knives. They are on a 2deg angle, so you would lose a minimal amount.
In order for it to work properly, kick the outfeed end of the fence out. That way the knives will help pull the stock toward the fence, instead of pushing it away.
