I thought I would post some photos of the latest pens from my shop that I made.

First is a Jr. Majestic kit and is adorned with a beautiful grey and white Italian acrylic material. A little tricky to work but a good sharp skew and slow speed will do the trick.

Next is a Sierra kit with a blank I cast using a clear resin over a gold matrix weave. Spun and polished to a high shine.

Finally is a blank I made from curly maple and red and black veneer inlayed in a scalloped segmented pattern. It is finished with 8 coats of med CA and polished.
Thanks all for looking and as always any comments or questions are always welcomed

You have been busy. The pens are very nice and the curly maple and red and black veneer is my favorite.

You pens are always first class, John. They are all beautiful!

I'd be interested in seeing a tutorial on the scalloped pen. It's just that cool....

Beautiful pens John! They are all very nice, but I'd have to say the gold weave is my favorite.

Thanks Kathy. It is a tough pen to photogragh. It actually looks better farther away and I probably should not have used the macro setting. You get a better feel for the pattern. Anyway thanks again.

John - as always, you have created some beautiful pens and photos to show them off! Always hard to pick a favorite, because each offers something unique, but to me, the gold mesh really stands out as something you don't see every day! Very nice work! Thanks for sharing!

Great stuff John!! Those scallops are tricky...you pulled it off well! For educational purposes...why the low speed on the Italian resin, and where do you define low speed...just curious.

Thank you Jeff. I get this braiding along with many other types from here. http://cableorganizer.com/mylar/

The reason for low speed is because this material has a low melting point. The faster you drill the more heat and the more chance of cracking. The same goes for turning. Need sharp tools and watch the heat. When finishing I use water to cool the sanding pads for both lubrication and also cool it down. 500 rpm when drilling and back out the bit often to clear debris.

I will be posting some other scalloped work hopefully if I do not blow up the blanks. There are various ways of doing segmenting work. I want to try a few others as well.
