Burl Envy

I saw this on vacation in the Forbidden City in Beijing. Despite it's appearance, it is alive and well. We were with a tour group and I didn't have time to see if it was labeled as to species, age, etc. There was a 45 pound limit on checked bags, so I didn't bother asking whether I could have it.

That is probably a sacred tree Doug, revered as an "ancient one," and you could have "disappeared" had you even considered touching metal to it!!! Besides, those are some ugly burls, if indeed there is such a thing as an ugly burl??
