i havn't had much of a chance to do much turning lately. Did sneek this one in yesterday. It's from a ugly old maple burl i had laying around. Wasn't very thick,so i was thinking maybe a platter. Well as i was turning it became this winged bowl. It's about 10x8x 1 1/2, finished with multi coats shellac, followed by multi coats lacquar. knocked down the shine, and will wax and buff later.
Thanks and all C&C welcome.

Nice looking, pla.., er, bowl! I like the "peg leg" solution to balance!

If it were me, I would have worried about the big chunk on the end separating and launching across my shop!

Love the peg. I hope you were wearing a full suit of armor.

Thanks guys. Yea i kept waiting for that piece to go flying. That's one reason i left it at 3/8 thick. And yea it was way out of balance.

Pretty neat piece! Glad you didn't launch any of it on the way!

Nice job, Steve. I really like it. I'm curious about how you reverse turned it, since it was so out of balance. Care to share?

You certainly did well keeping this in one piece. I love this hunk of wood and you certainly did a great job showing everything it has.

Really nice Steve. May not have been as bad as we might think but sure does look like the pucker factor would be high.:D

Steve, I love how you've taken a rough and gnarly chunk of wood and let it keep it's character while still adding the refinement of the smooth bowl. And I really like the idea of the small leg to keep the balance for the offset bowl. That's a beauty!

Glad you didn't get clobbered! You need more turning time...this is a good example of what happens when you get some spinny in!

Thanks guys ounce again. Jim i would love to get some more turning time in, but right now, i'm trying to get the garden fenced, and planted. I'm making it over twice as big as it was. I'm also putting in a large plot for just corn, and also got a special plot for strawberrys.
