I picked up this piece of wood at a garage sale. It measures approximately 24" x 4" x 1" and it weighs around 5 pounds.

Does anyone want to venture a guess as to what it is?

Kinda looks like teak to me. Does it feel kinda waxy?

Prashun: I am familar with Purpleheart and I don't believe that is what I have. This wood has a very fine texture.

Joe: It has a slick feel to it due to the fine texture but by no means does it feel waxy.

William: When cut it has a smell that is similar to walnut. It isn't as strong but it is somewhat spicy. Maybe that is
why Imbuya is called Brazilian Walnut.

Thank you for your responses!

Bill

Could be afromosia. It looks a lot like teak, without the waxy feel. Not much detail in the pics, and contrast could be way off. Heck, I'm just guessin' at this point, but I always enjoy these threads. Esp. when the timber guru's join in!
