Looking for something to do with a this piece of spalted punky White Oak (besides putting in with firewood). I started going through my magazine piles.
I found an article by Mark Sanger in Woodturning March 2011 that I thought would work fine.
Piece is turned in three parts. Wood is still green and continues to check and add caracter. 7" x 37"
Danish oil was sprayed on, put oil into an old window cleaner spray bottle, a little Japan dryer (nothing was measured, got lucky). 227104

Now that's different and definitely something you don't see every day! Pretty cool and I love the size!! This piece should help inspire a lot of folks with a good kick in the imagination!! Thanks for sharing!!

It looks like the eye of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings.

I am not usually a fan of modernistic sculpture, but this one could change my outlook!! Very balanced, and lots of visual appeal. Nice work, Jerry.

I kind of like it and am not normally impressed with such things Jerry. Big enough to make a statement but doesn't take up that much space.

Thanks Everyone
It is something that I thought I would not like. I was wrong. And I did enjoy doing it. as for name, I call it

"Portable Peep Hole" or I just call it "Sculpture".

Shows start soon, I better call it something.
Maybe I shoud turn an eye for each side, then simply call it "Peep Hole" or "Somebody's Watching"
Have the eye popping out like it really sees something. Aaannhh! Maybe I should leave it alone. & quit overthinking it.

Great looking piece Jerry. I hope that it doesn't crack to much as it continues to dry.

Nice work Jerry!

Thought for a minute there I would see something with a cowboy in it.
