I made this plane in January. I called it the Winter Smoother. I guess this is why we had such a mild winter.:)

That is beautiful work Ron! Really like the look and finish of this one - probably my favourite Brese plane so far.

Hey Ron, what a beautiful work of art. Looks pretty old, though. Which century did you make it in?

Very nice. I'd love to make something like that.

I really like the new simple typeface on the lever cap, timeless.

It is, of course, a thing of great beauty. After studying the photo for quite some time, I humbly submit that there is only one small flourish I would add: given the style of the the main casting, I would break the uninterrupted, inside curvature of the rear handle (closest to the iron) with a shallow, styllized bird's mouth.

I enjoyed following the creation of the "Winter Smoother" on the Benchcrafted blog.

Beautiful!
Just another example of the beauty that pushes me into wanting to build one, or more, myself.

the "hotness" of the plane is impacting the weather patterns.

Thanks for the comments and compliments on this plane. This design has been in the works for over a year before finally creating this prototype. Here's a photo of the plane prior to adding the pataina.

All my cast iron is "patinated" in my damp basement - no chemical dip required.

Ron your planes are beautiful works of art! I'm happy to say though that they are a joy to play with as well! Thanks for putting them on display at Highland last month and entertaining a bunch of questions. :-)

Ron,
This plane is just beautiful. I love the pic with the wispy shaving too, pics with the product of such a tool always add to it's appeal!
Will any version of this be available as a kit?
Thanks for sharing! Jeff

You mean it's a feature -- I gotta stop fighting it. That's a relief!
