I've been turning a lot but haven't posted recently. This is a maple burl from my brother-in-law. Sanded to 600, two coats of AO and Beal buffed. It measures approx 5" x 5".

C and C welcome

A very classic SW look, Eric! Interesting color - very light. With the AO, I would expect a darker look to the maple, but I like this - particularly with the less intense figure on this one. The lighter color makes a great contrast to the bark inclusions - nice work.

Love the form! Like John mentioned - sure kept its light coloring even with AO! I really like it!

Count me in with those who are surprised at how light the coloring is on this maple with oil finish. Also count me in with those who like it!

Thanks for your comments. I'll probably get 6 turnings from this burl. It is mostly bark inclusions without much figure. I like the inclusions, as they do add a nice contrast to the light wood.
