I am building and oval/ellipse table with an open middle for glass and am wondering if there are any special considerations that need to be given to the number of pieces of solid maple that I use to create the top. The
length is 50" and th4 width is 30". The width of the frame (outside edge to inside edge is 7"). I would prefer to use 4 pieces to glue up and then trim with router. Is movement going to be an issue with using 4 wider boards instead of 8 narrower boards?
Below is picture of set up.

Don't see why a 4 board glue up wouldn't work. Glue up, cut oversized, let the wood "rest" a couple days to see if there is any tension that will cause movement, cut to finished size. I'd be sure to finish top and bottom to equalize moisture absorption. Might even wanna use some dowels placed according to design
for strength.
