I happened to be scouting around on ebay and came across a trend Airshield (not the pro) for 165.00 bucks. Everywhere else they seem to be 300.00+ did I get a deal or is the non pro worth getting. Dust has always been a major issue in my little shop and when I pile on a respirator, ear protection and a face shield, I look like something from star wars and it's very cumbersome. I always at least use the face shield but the air is just as important. Now it'll all be in one.

Bill....thats about $70 less than I paid for mine new. There is an article here in the archives about building your own batteries. I built them....For the price of 2 Trend batteries, I built 4 battery sets, got a smart charger that won't overcharge the batteries and future battery sets can be made for less than $7.00.

This one is new too. I guess I got a deal. I'll definitely look into the charger & making my own battery. Can you tell me what I'll need to to make my own & where to get the stuff?

Ken, can you point me to that article please?

Thanks, Joe

Here's the 2nd source.

I used Battery Junction for batteries and charger. I bought the plug at Mouser.

Bill - you got a heck of a deal! Like Ken, I think I paid $240 or so for mine new and that was a number of years ago! I did make my own battery packs and they work well. When you get your rechargeable AA batteries - get the ones for digital cameras - they have a higher amp/hour rating and will last longer before needing a charge. IMO.

sorry to resurrect and old thread, but after my last turning session set me back coughing for days, I decided I need a better respirator. What are the major advantages of the pro over the non-pro version, I can't find a good comparison. Bill, would you mind telling me who the ebay seller was (PM me if necessary) and if you were happy with everything?

Bill - good deal. One if the great sidebenefits is the moving air over your face. Even Tucson air will feel cool!!

I'll try to find it in my account. It'll have to be after the symposium though. I'm going crazy trying to get the work done so I can go.

For good info on the difference between the Pro and the Trend.........and respirators in general, a fellow creeker Josh Bowman submitted a research article for WTA.......see link below:

I had the trend airshield, to front heavy, always working its way down my forehead.
Now I have the pro a better balance on the head not to mention the longer battery(8hours)

Bob,
I have the same problem with the Pro faceshield pushing down on my glasses when I tilt my head forward. The strap adjustment, locking knobs, and stops seem to be the weak point of this unit.

I'm wondering if I should just make my own gear...

I'm gonna see if there's a 3M at the IWF this year, and try it on.
