View Full Version : Corel - Joing and closing curve problem

Greetings!

I have an issue where I took some text, converted it to curves and modified it in order to get a good vector cut. I also want to contour inside of that text but my understanding is that when I want to contour inside, I need to close the curve.

When I combine and close the curve, it adds extra lines from the modified parts. What's the trick here? I'll show you the issue in a picture.

You need to join the sets of nodes touching by selecting them only and do the join. This should solve the issue you are having

So I select each line (I can't see how to select just the nodes) and right click on them and click combine?

Why are you using the combine tool?

If you didn't close the curve after you modified the object use the join curves tool in the arrange menu. then use the contour tool.

I see no join curves option in the arrange menu. I have X4.

It may have been moved or renamed in X5. Look in your help file for joining curves or nodes.

I did. It says to select each line, select the shape tool, and click the auto-close option, which seems to do nothing.

Here's another thread which may help.

That's my post. It got me around the fill issue but it wont work with a vector line as I'm trying to do. Should this really be this hard to join nodes? Corel's gotta pick it up a bit, I think.

Shawn

It'll work--look a little deeper.

If you want to post the file I'll have a look at it.

I must be missing a step because I referenced that post when I had troubles before posting on this thread. The autocad export doesn't work because it exports as a spline and I cannot join splines together. Thanks for your help. I'll post the two letters I am having problems with here.

The open path is definitely your issue........in X4 go to Arrange/close path.

I'm using X5 but it is saved in V11.

On X5 you can specify how close the nodes must be to "close" them. Not sure
about other versions.

Thanks for that. That actually solved it up!

Shawn

Glad to help. I know I could do that in X3 but have forgotten the steps.

As Steve said, the open path is the issue. some times the line thickness can hide the open path, for that you can
1. Convert the outlines into objects, then use the smart fill tool to get the required

Apart from open curves , often sharp acute angles actually do NOT have a contour path (or offset) and "contour" generates some unpredicatable results , a solution is to use the fillet tool and give the whole path a very small radiused fillet and then contour.

Hello Shawn,

Maybe it is that what you request
