Some of you will remember my post from about a week ago where I posted pics of what I thought was an oak burl and I asked for suggestions on what I should do to not screw it up as it was my first "live" burl.
I cut it up as suggested, found a nest of ants (may they rest in pieces..er peace) and managed to salvage three large chunks and a bunch of smalls that I will use for stoppers, pen blanks etc.. During the band saw phase I realized it wasn't oak after all but black birch; the smell and a section of bark that didn't look anything like oak confirmed it. I am pleasantly surprised and have sealed all the pieces until I have time to play with them. Thanks everyone for your help.
