I finally had the time to use some Honduras Mahogany (slab and planks) I had been saving. I built this 8 foot long buffet. The slab was 22x 14 feet x 2.5 thick. I made the legs and another table out of the rest. The draws are all hardwood birch interiors. I used khaya plywood for interior shelves and bottom and top. The sides I made out of solid Hondo.

Haha, I honestly think I hurt my self pretty good lifting it the first time. Without exaggeration I would say the unit before all the soft close slides and draws and doors and shelves were in it, weighed about 225. The slab was about 200 I guess in its full length, I know it was 50bd feet.

That is a fine piece of woodwork. Just curious what kind of finishing schedule did you use? Thanks.

All my stuff is a sprayed lacquer unless its a working surface then its a pre catalyzed varnish. It was sanded to 120 then the top to 220 then by hand after that to 400. It has 5 coats on it.

Thanks

That's gorgeous. I just finished two end tabes of Honduran Mahogany but I didn't have the figure you hve in that top.

Beautiful piece of wood for the top, and you definitely did it justice.
Question: I assume there are other interior supports at the bottom that you don't see?

I put one across the middle underneath that sits on the floor that you dont see.Center partitions are glued and screwed to the top ply under slab and the back is held on with a bunch of staples to prevent it from sagging or failing.

THANKS :)

Thanks Jim! Let my back recoup from lifting it , then keep and eye out for a box truck backing in. You can load me up with some nice PA cherry! :)
