I turned this Saturday during a demo on making bowls with 3 feet. It is nothing fancy but most of the things that I have made during demos looked much worse. It did not look nearly this good at the end of the demo but after getting it home and doing a little sanding and putting a coat of oil on it, this is the result. The wood is water elm (it has lots of character), diameter is a little less than 8 inches.

Dennis,
I really appreciate your "down to earth" demo approach. Showing us a variety of ways to achieve the goal and not too get hung up on one tool or another is really helpful! I'm pleased to see there's a role for the humble coping saw in your toolbox! Great demo - what do you have for us next? :D

I'm not a fan of this type of foot, but I think it is done well. the wood is very appealing & you did justice to it

Dennis, I am with Michelle on the carved feet - but, not something I care for. Nonetheless, lot of folks like them and these are well done. That wood certainly has some beautiful, deep character to it. Very nice result, and sounds like the club appreciated your efforts.

I figured you had a bowl 36 inches across!

Nice job with the carving

Very nice indeed. Any chance you've got a youtube video? I've got an idea to put my own twist on this technique.

I love feet like these. I think they are a clever detail. I understand that it interrupts the flow, but I love a little punctuation at the end of my sentences!

I was expecting a 36" diameter bowl! But this is almost as good. ;-)

Seriously, nice work!

The feet are a nice addition and coupled with this particular piece of wood, the bowl takes on an antique, almost 18th century look that suits it just fine.

Dennis, I'm sorry that I missed your demo since I have a large mesquite bowl to make 3 footed as next step in finishing. I hope it turns out half as nice as this. It looks like your Water Elm was a little wormy or is that something else.
