Ash hollow form turned using the lost wood process. Carved, textured and finished with flat acrylic. All comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.

That is so cool, but what is the "lost wood process"? I could come up with a "clever" guess but I would really like to know!

Joe, that is just amazing stuff you do! Love it, the whole thing. I want to try one of these things one day if I can just get caught up on some other projects. The are just amazing pieces that beg to be picked up and held.

Kelvin, I start by laminating three pieces of wood together using paper joints. I then turn a hollow form vessel. Next the joints get broken apart, the center lamination is removed (lost), and then the two outer pieces get laminated together. This leaves an oval hollow form with no opening.

That is just to cool Joe.

Joe that is another very neat project. I like it a lot, and thanks for showing. One question, is the piece textured before the lost piece is removed?

It is carved, sanded and then textured after it is laminated back together.

Cool piece Joe...these are fascinating and the process seems like a good one for doing a baby rattle as well...without all the exquisite carving and finish work!

Great piece, Joe! I love the way the grain plays off of the carved surfaces!
