Thanks Matt, I will check out facebook.

Yep, When you see the photo's of model homes inside the building it's massive. The store I use to work in was a total building size of 400,000 sq feet so I can walk the 285,000 sq ft. no problem.

I was at the old store a couple of weeks ago and they told me April for their grand opening.

They just posted "April" on Facebook today too. No news on whether that means we have to wait 17 days or 45 days.

I thought they said the 2nd of April when I was there. The 1st is a Sunday and they are not open on Sundays

You guys are lucky. We just lost our Woodcraft a couple of months ago. They opened up just as the economy went south and never got a strong foothold. I hated to see them go.

Matt and I will be thinking of all our friends here when we take the grand tour of the place. LOL!!!!!

What makes this place so dangerous is it is located on the same grounds of a huge outdoor flea market. Last time I was there I found so much old tools I could not buy all I wanted.

Here is the flea market.

The Hartville Kitchen is also located on the same grounds.

I told someone there last time I visited that if they built a hotel on site, they could keep people on their property the whole time. But they don't do Sundays so that would be tough.

Bruce, I worry about our Woodcraft too, but they generally seem busy so I'm hopeful. The one in Toledo that is. The one in Canton, MI, well, I really couldn't care less. Their old manager was a complete um...jerk...and IMHO ran the place into the ground. I stopped in once since and they didn't have half of what I was looking for.

We still have Woodworker"s Supply so I shouldn't complain too much. I liked dealing with Woodcraft over WWS though, WWS seems more geared to the pro contractor than the home hobbyist.

Matt-

Have you been to the Woodcraft in Sterling Heights - it seems to be doing well. Most time that I am there they are busy. It also is quite a bit larger than the Canton store. I would really miss it if it was to close up !

Rich, yes, we'll go sometime this spring, just not sure when yet. LOML and I have both been working a lot of extra hours due to being busy at work.

Doug, I've been there once, to take a class. Its a lot nicer store than Canton.

What...nobody is going to give us a live play by play of the opening day with an ipad or something? :)

Hopefully they can keep their prices reasonable. Most of the big dollar sites I've been to cause the price of the goods to go up.

Of course, they can just raise the price on everything else and keep the woodworking stuff reasonable, that'd be a fine way to solve any cash demands from the build :)

Made the trip to the new Hartville Hardware store. Very nice store. They had about anything you would want to see in tools. their stationary tool section is good but not as big as Keim.
Speaking of Keim Lumber in charm, Ohio. They were having a 100th anniversary event this week. 10% off everything not on sale. The place was packed. The Amish were buying everything.
The photo's below is Hartville Hardware and the Hartville Kitchen (To the far right in the photo) My camera died just as I went to take a photo of the Flea Market behind the Hardware store. The Flea Market is 80 acres of blacktop.
The Amish buggies were out front of Keim Lumber big sale. The buggies on the road is the traffic jam on the way home from the sale. :)

At Keim Lumber sale I was able to get a 1/4 spindle gouge, 3/4" sq nose scraper and an arm load of 2x2 Hard Maple turning blanks for $39 bucks and some change. Tax included:D

Ok, I finally went earlier this week. It's a beautiful store that they should be quite proud of. The idea house is really a neat idea. I took a few pics in there. We picked up a number of items for our laundry/half bath remodel. I'd rather support them than a "local" bug box since I had the chance. Tool-wise I just picked up some US made Channellock pliers from their nice selection. And we got a box of organic treats for the dog. We didn't check out the basement or the indoor lumber yard.

I got the impression in tools that they are still moving in. There was a lot of rearranging/stocking going on. There was a comment somewhere else that it looked like they just spread everything out so that might have been true and now they are backfilling with new stock. I was a little disappointed by their Festool selection which looks to be done. I think my Woodcraft has more. Not that I was really looking to buy anything anyway. Well, except now that I think of it I did want a rail bag but I don't think they had those. I think they must have EVERYTHING from the Milwaukee, Makita, and Dewalt catalogs! Stationary machinery seemed kind of disorganized and there was some weird stuff they must have pulled out of the back room at the old store--like a Steel City 16-32 drum sander with about 1/8" of warehouse grime on it. They had 4 various Sawstop saws but none looked to be current PCS models.

I checked out the John Deere zero turns. Now I see what my dealer picked up Husqvarna for those.

Thursday flea market is so-so.
