Picked this for $25. It was in decent shape, not too rusty and all the parts were there.

However the tote was broken in half so I shaped a new one and turned a knob to match. With the new Veritas blade in it, it cuts like a dream.

Great job on the restore. I could look at photos like this all day! First time I've seen a maple tote and knob, but I think it works. I'm currently making a new tote and knob out of beech for my scrub plane.

Nice work. I like the lighter colored totes and knobs. This and all of the nice chisel handles makes me want to buy a mini lathe!

Uh...why don't you let me try it out. I'll sharpen it (and keep it).

Very good work. That's what you call turning a sow's ear into a silk purse. Especially nice work on the knob and tote.

Thanks guys. This was my first kick at the can so I was pleased with how it turned out.

Nice restore and great work on the tote & knob.

The #5 is such a handy size, you will likely end up with a few more to restore.

If you ever decide to color the tote, I've found that Minwax polyshades are awesome. Very easy to apply, nice feel...somebody might say I'm a nut for suggesting that, but I use it on all the totes that I make or refinish.

I just did the same treatment to a #4. Those Veritas blades are great! You are gonna love making shavings!
