Check for metal objects before cutting a board. I didn't and
while ripping a board I hit a staple that came flying out.
It missed me Thank God.

I did the same thing Friday. A nail embedded in some cherry that I was ripping. Enough sparks to start a fire and then it threw it out ... but it missed me.
Rest in Peace .... it was a great Freud!!!

Good Afternoon Mike,
I wish I had done it recently. I was planing some rough sawn cherry and "saw" a glintof metal imbedded in the board. I removed the board and levered out the chunk. It would have not been visible in the lumber, as the tree grew around it. It did nick a newly sharpened set of DeWalt knives. I bought a cheap metal detector at Target and plan on using it regularly. Heretofore, I had used it only when recycling reclaimed lumber. I hate screwing up expensive blades, but I equally dislike the wood to reload a spent round and fire it back in my direction. It is unfriendly.:)
