I'm getting ready to start my Roubo build and I will be adding a wagon vise. I've already purchased a shoulder vise screw from Lee Valley however I'm starting to wonder if that screw could be a little overkill. Is a veneer press screw a better option for a wagon vise?

Thanks for your input.

I'm interested in this as well. Also any tail vise builds in general.

The veneer press screw is just fine. I had that type screw on my last bench for 15 years. I am a huge fan of the wagon style tail vise, and am presently building a new bench, which is a Roubo style and has a wagon vise. The change I am making is that I will be using the Benchcrafted wagon vise.

The biggest nuisance about my old bench, and vise screw, was that when you opened it, it became an obstacle at the right end of the vise. I cannot tell you how many times I smacked my hip on it while working at the left end of the bench. I am hoping the Benchcrafted vise handle, which stays put near the right end of the bench, will solve this problem.

Does the veneer press screw have enough travel?

Can less travel be addressed with closer set dog holes?
