My son-in-law found this in a house he was cleaning out and did not know what it was, so he brought it to me to see if I knew what it was. Needless to say, he will not be getting it back. It is in excellent condition other than needing a little TLC and cleaning up. I have seen many draw knives at antique stores, but this is the first time I have ever seen that you adjust the handles on. Any information about it wouldbe greatly appreciated. The only markings on it are Greenlee and Ill. USA225931225932

That is called a pattern maker's draw knife,if I recall correctly. It folded to mask the blade, and make it smaller in the pattern maker's usually smaller than the large carpenter's tool chest.

$30? Wow. Expensive sucker for the time. That's about $500 today.

John,
I don't think that is a per/tool price -- it is more likely for a dozen, as was typical of catalog prices in days gone by.
Makes even more sense if you look at the posted weights in far right column.

You're absolutely right. It's a more reasonable $40 per, which is actually pretty cheap. I think I paid almost twice that for my Pfeil drawknife.
