Well I got the light mounted, it's at least one option, the previous post and responses got the creative tinkering juices going. So a trip to the local muffler shop got the correct size pipe that could then go into a 2" ridged pipe that I welded to a piece of scrap plate. My only problem is the light is a little far away from the head of the lathe, but I'll have to work with it some to get the hang of where it will stay, at least it's out of the way. I'm finding at 56 that I can't get too much light!

Rotate the base 90 degrees so it gets closer to the edge of that table you have it mounted on... that should bring it close enough to the headstock for you.
