Just playing around with a pear log (stole it from a friends fire wood pile). I am just practicing following curves. The wall thickness is between 1/8" and 3/16". I know it isn't much, but hopfully some day I can get as good as you guys.

Hey David, you will need to upload your image to SMC when you post.

To do this, edit your post and then scroll down the page. Click "Manage Attachments". From there it is pretty self explanitory.

ThankS!

Bradford pear is an excellent wood to learn with. Fairly easy to turn wet, there's plenty of it and the wood just falls right off the tree after about a 15-20 year growth cycle. The housing developments that are going up around here love them and the ice storms help with plenty of turning stock.

It looks like you got a nice finish on the cup. Some I turned a while back had so much water in it that it mildewed while I was waiting for it to dry.

Interesting shape and form. What did you do for finish?

I sanded it down to 1500 grit, then used the Mylands High Build Friction Polish. I almost did not put anything on it, because the wood looked real nice after the sanding.
