A piece of Bradford pear that I got from the elementary school near work last year. Approx. 9" x "3", shellac, DO, buffed, waxed. Really enjoyed working this wood, both green and dry.

C & C always welcomed.

Thanks for looking.225220

The shape of this bowl looks great as does the finish. Pear is very nice to turn.

Richard, that is one clean looking bowl! Reminds me I owe one of our kids a pear bowl from the tree they lost last year - need to go to the barn and get that wood!

Nice clean bowl Richard. I have only heard that it turns and burns(pyro) well. Have never tried it....yet!

That's one of the perfect bowls we see from time to time...Should be in the dictionary under "bowl"

Richard,

That is a nice looking BP bowl. If this was your first BP piece, I bet the hardness and finish were a surprise to you. I take it that you rough turned it green last year and let dry before finish turning now. That really works well for me, but I have never used the shellac step. I have finished using Tripoli buff, oil/poly mix, and then continue buff & oil for 3 to 5 coats finishing with Tripoli buff and renaissance wax for non food pieces, and just using multiple coats of either Walnut Oil or Grapeseed Oil for food use. I sand to 400 in either case. The Tripoli buff prior to coating really improves the surface finish and does not seem to hurt the oil finish process. I find that BP is one of my woods of choice, but it will be harder to get here in Fredericksburg than it was in Tyler, TX.

Very nice, Richard.

I got a lot of Bradford Pear from my daughter's tree that fell in October. Made a bowl for them using green wood. It warped when it dried, but they love it. It was my first bowl. I still have a lot of wood left, but it has begun to check very badly. I'm not sure if I can use any of it now.
