Fresh off the lathe. I am in the process of finishing another piece that requires multiple coats of poly...so had to have something to work on with some more immediate results. I've been trying to improve my ability on this shape, with some credit due to the wonderful work of so many folks who so adroitly roll the foot in and leave a bit of a higher shoulder

This piece of dogwood crotch had been pretty well checked but I trimmed it out and salvaged it. Turquoise inlay, AO and triple buffed. 4" diam x 6.5" tall.

here's a couple other views of it. The pic below left also includes a little copper inlay...

Tim, I call these projects "tween" turnings - as in between turnings! Every now and then one needs to have a diversion and looks like you found a good one!

It looks like you nailed the form on this one. Very nice!

like the high shoulder on this tall-ish form..and the foot area I think is just about right...I like the turq. fill..looks great in the darker area of the vessel

A beauty! Form and finish are 'right on'.

All of my attempts at turning Dogwood have been disappointments, all have split during the shaping or shortly after. Well done sir!

Pretty neat how it's plain on one side and gnarly on the other. You can turn it around depending on your mood. Very well done!

That's some slick work there Tim!! Inlay is great and the wood keeps you looking all the way around!

Agree with the others here, Tim. The form is spot on. And I like the embellishments as well. I really like the turquoise.

Thanks for all the feedback, I am pretty happy with how it turned out, but like alot of folks, I go back and forth sometimes on what is a reasonable amount of inlay, and best contrast color for a particular piece. Most of the time when I do inlay, I try not to overdo it, with just some subtle amount normally to help reinforce a piece or add something where a particular void isn't particularly attractive. Some will like, others not...real personal taste issue.

Tim, you nailed the form and I like the way it finishes at the rim. The addition of the Turquoise adds a wonderful touch of color too. Well done.

I like things a bit more au natural so not a fan of the Turquoise but otherwise great job. Dig the form and your work. I wish I could find a Dogwood of decent size. Everything is super small in my neck of the woods.
