After presenting the clients with a 1/4 scale model they had a few "suggestions" that led to this....
The design was partly driven by the need to house the three speakers.

Baltic birch core, curly eastern maple veneer, ebony edges, french cleat, multiple dowel joinery and my secret magic mix for a finish :)
Fresh out of the clamps.

Kewel. Love the mock up. I'm big on cardboard, foam or scrap-wood prototypes for the client who has trouble "picturing" something in their head. We need to be sensitive to the fact that there are some folks who simply cannot do this. My dad is one and it can be frustrating for him (Oand me) when I am trying to help him over the phone ;). Very interesting piece.

Really neat! I like it a lot. Maybe a stupid question... do the top and bottom shelves actually go through the sides?

Thanks Sam, Glenn and John,
Originally I was going to use a long bridle joint but in the end decided on dowels.

The shelves are veneered in one piece and then cut apart before reassembly...

One last thing to do, make a cover for the cables that will be visible between the cabinet and the desk under the cabinet.
I used some of the veneer cut offs laminated to solid maple.
Draw, cut and glue :)

That is really fine woodworking. Funny how the simple designs are the most difficult to construct. You did a masterful job there.

Thank you very much Bobby, Sam and Mike.
"Simple" definitely takes longer :)
