This chair belongs to a friend of mine and they asked me to repair it. The best I could think of is to drill out the old dowel. My concern is that it would be free hand. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to tackle this job?

Thanks

It can be done by using small bits first to create a pilot hole. Then, step up thru sizes to final diameter. Take your time.

I've repaired a few of those breaks & what I did was drill a lot of small holes in the broken dowel & then pick out the pieces with needle nose pliers. If you drill enough holes you can get most of the wood out then you could drill it out to the size it started as.....It's worked for me 3 or 4 time with out a problem....

That sounds like a great idea! Thank you.
