Three weeks ago I posted the HF seen here http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?180011-Spalted-Beech-HF-A-Prototype&p=1854598#post1854598 (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?180011-Spalted-Beech-HF-A-Prototype&p=1854598#post1854598).

After turning it to about 3/8” in thickness, I followed Wally Dickermans method and soaked it in a 50% mixture of white glue and water. After 3 days in the soak, it was another 2 ½ weeks before I got a chance to turn it again. The 2 cracks that were present to begin with, began opening up as it dried. I had other commitments and was afraid I had waited too long, but using a combination of medium and thin CA along with accelerator, I was able to squeeze them back together for returning. Tearout was not a problem this time around. Hopefully the wood was worth the extra effort. At least the experience was.

What do you think?

Baxter,
I really like it a lot. The color variation on different areas are amazing and the form is spot on. Have you added a finish? it or are you waiting for it to dry/stabilize, etc. Very nice piece.

Beautiful piece Baxter! I think the extra effort was well worth it. That is one of my favorite forms and you did a great job with it.

+1 What Michelle said. I have tried CA gluing some cracks back together in the past. Some hold and some don't. I sure hope these hold - the piece is lovely.

Thanks for your positive thoughts!

Thanks Ken. I gave it a coat of oil after turning it to about 3/16 last Wed. Gave it another coat on Friday then buffed a few days after that.

Thanks Michele. It has been sitting in my 60 degree shop since last Wed. Since it doesn't seem to have changed in the past 9 days I am thinking(hoping;)) it will survive.

What a beautiful piece! Love the colors and it sure looks like all the work was worth it. I've never tried that glue/water mix for soaking, but it sure makes sense and looks like it paid off here.
