Foredom/chisels/air compressor

For most carving and free-hand shaping I use chisels and gouges but certain situations require me to use an angle grinder, arbortech, laminate router, or Foredom. There are situations where I use various carbide burrs powered by the Foredom but many times I find I need more torque. Before I take the plunge and buy an compressor and die grinder, does anyone know of an electric version of a die grinder that has the torque and speed I need to use various sized and shaped balls, burrs, mills? I'm not too enthused about the noise of a 60 gallon air compressor in my basement.

You don't specify bit size, but Makita, Milwaukee and Dewalt all make electric die grinders. You can also check out this thread on Practical Machinist.

Thanks for the info, Harvey. I'll be using carbide burrs: cylindrical, egg-shaped, and ball, with 1/4" shafts such as this:

I'm looking for both torque and speed.

Anyone else in the SMC community using air-powered die grinders for wood removal? If so, what size compressor, make, etc.?
