Jurassic Pod II is created using the lost wood process. “Lightweight” was the wood I lost from this form. It started as 3 pieces of timber laminated together. I then turned a hollow form vessel. The vessel is broken apart at the glue joints. This piece is the result of laminating the two outer parts back together. The piece is then carved, dyed, and finished. It measures approximately 6.75” x 5” x 3.75”.

Joe, I like this one much better. Beautiful wood! Is that BLM burl?

I'm just amazed at folks 'round here! This thing just boggles the mind to look at it, although I understand how you made it. You want to pick it up and shake it for some reason, I do anyway. Love it and it's gorgeous!

Your creativity is amazing, Joe. You are on my short list of who's postings I must not miss. Your choice of wood here is spectacular. Keep 'em coming!

This is a great piece, the carving is very even and works with the random grain/colors. I think distorting the center bead might add to the organic character some, I know that is a joint and am not sure how much can be done there.

Very creative and very well done. Really looks like some sort of seed pod. The wild figure and dye job definitely add to the piece. Might have to "borrow" the idea some time...
