How did you manage to keep the pin cylindrical? I've been asked to make one, but am terrified of making ridges along the length...

Use calipers and a good straight edge. Establish diameter at the ends first. Line up your tool rest with the late bed ways to help keep things straight, fine tune with sanding and regular checking with the straight edge. The roller portion is 12" long.

Nice looking rolling pin Allan! Made a little one for my daughter almost 20 years ago. Someday I will try a fullsized one!:)

That's a beauty! I hear you can use a hand plane on a turning pin in order to achieve a consistent diameter.

Actually the wood is very dark in color with subdued red casts.
