Very cool! I think I'd like to try that right there!

OK, tell us. Did you turn that from a 2" plank or from a 6" chunk and then cut off the sides? It is a dramatic piece. Well done in either case.

Oh yeah, a new meaning to "hollow form".

I think you might have just invented a new use for hollow forms. It looks like a propeller for a wind turbine. Plus you get two matching egg shaped bowls out of it. This is taking piercing to a whole new level....

That's a great take on the hollow form!

Joe,
Your skill and imagination befuddles me. Terrific interpretation of a hollow form. Did you make a complete form and cut it or make it from a thick board? If it's a secret, I understand.

Yep, very cool. So tell us, how did it feel to actually cut away the sides of a perfectly good hollowform?

Pretty neat, Joe! There are some derivations that might be interesting if you are inclined to do this again. One could make the cuts produce a much more slim "vase form" on the wood - sort of with a slight shoulder and a curve toward the base. I realize it would produce concave sides, but it might be interesting to play with.

Joe, the vision to do something like that goes counter to what we try to achieve as artisans, yet you've succeeded in creating a thing of beauty with your creativity.

Lesson to be learned

Joe I would like to hear the sound that makes while it is spinning. Very cool indeed.

Great imagination here Joe! Thanks for posting. I have several HF's where I have cut through the sides. I bet I could try this "save" on them. The wall thickness might not be quite as even though.:)

Very imaginative and good piece to use for showing folks what tools are used to accomplish the hollowing.
I like this Joe! Amazing sometimes the simple but unique creations folks come up with...this one is cool!

Joe, I hate to be the one to tell you, but your sides fell off... Maybe with a little CA glue you can stick them back on. ;^} Just kidding - pretty neat idea and execution!

And to think all this time I've been making art and throwing it away! Really cool job Joe...really made me stop and think for a minute.

Interesting piece Joe. Reminds me of one of them new fangled Dyson fans. A grouping of these along side of your others would look pretty neat. How about some brass posts articulating the fall off pieces a bit?

Wow Joe! I think you've made all of us rethink "hollow" forms just a little bit. Great idea and execution...although it looks a little scary to turn:eek:!

Joe that is definitely thinking outside the box... or is it cutting the outside of the box... or....

In any case WOW.

You want a comment? TOO cool! Now, tell me that you turned an enitre bowl and cut the sides off with the band saw, leaving you with two egg shaped bowls... The egg shaped bowls would be a head scratcher form anyone trying to figure out how you did it...
