Well, we're moving forward slowly but surely. The pineapples, copying pretty close to what my uncle made, are 4 5/8" tall, not including the tenon.

Here it's turned and sanded to 220, reference lines are drawn in to guide the spiral for the carving. The lines going around the piece are measured from the original carved pineapple my uncle made.

Here, the carving begins after the spirals are drawn on all the pineapples.

Here's a top view of one that has the initial carving done with a veiner tool.

We are slowly getting there... the story continues...

Part II of the pineapples...

They're getting closer and closer to that final shape!

And here's how they will fit on top of the posts.

And of course, what's carving without a little blood draw? It's those dark spots right here in the middle on the end of that pineapple.

Next step, some final cuts to be made, a bit of overall sanding, and ready for finish! YAY!

Man, those look GREAT! My little sister had a bed with short posts capped with pineapples growing up. I loved holding the pineapples in my hand, even as a little boy. I always wondered how they were made, and as a little boy I thought they would take FOREVER! I bet they do take a long time, and although I have since learned the mystery of how to do it, I still love them. I wish I could stop by and see how they feel! Haha!

Anyway, thanks for posting the progress photos every so often. That bed is looking nice!

Watching how much effort goes into a pineapple like that makes me appreciate how easy it is for God makes the real ones.

I bet it takes him months to grow one, and even then a little help from the farmers are useful. :D
