I've been using this method since seeing it on Reed's coring video, and it works very well! The only mishap I've had was just a couple of days ago, when I forgot to change measuring sticks when I used a different chuck. Even that wouldn't have been fatal, had I not inexplicably taken a big bite out of the very center when turning away the foot.

It can't get any easier than that -- thanks for the tip Reed.

Don't forget to make a new stick when you change jaws. DAMHIKT
I got it from another of your videos.

Doesn't get much simpler than that. Thanks Reed, nice explanation on video.

Thanks Reed - I've always favoured the 'finger length' method, up to now!

Agreed, this is simple and works. I have one of those thickness feeler gauges (a double loop that shows you on one end what the other end is doing) and simply slip them between the jaws to see where I'm at.

(Does that make sense, or do I need to shoot a short vid?)

Yep, too many loops, I got lost at the drug store. Pictures or vid would be great.

Way too simple, I always over think these things. Thanks Reed.
