The first one was dyed with Behlen's Medium Red Mahogany, sanded back and dyed with Transtint Yellow, steel wooled and 3 coats of lacquer. The first is about 7" across and 1 1/2" deep. The second is around 6" x 1 1/2".

On the second one I used Behlen's Medium Walnut followed by Transtint Yellow, but the sequence was the same.

SWEET!! I really like the red/mahogany the best - nice and warm with great undertones.

Love them both but the first bowl more so. Might just be the wood. Rims look great

They are both extraordinary selections of wood and your dye choices lend very well to the grain. If I had to choose, I'd probably say the first one. But if I hadn't seen the first one, the second one would be just as pleasing. Well done Bob, thanks for sharing your beautiful work.

Bob, these really look nice. You did a great job with the dye and the turnings. I like the rim and the bottom. Well done

Nice. It's not easy to dye maple without getting a "splotchy" effect. There is a bit of that around the left edge of the second bowl but it is not "too bad" and does not really detract from the whole. Both of these are excellent bowls and the way the dye has made the figure come alive kicks them up a notch.

It's not easy to dye maple without getting a "splotchy" effect. So true! One must sand until you think you have it like glass, then sand some more!

Yes dying wood be a wonderful time if it weren't for the sanding. Put it on, sand it off, put it on sand it off, put it on sand it off, put it on sand it off. It can sure take the fun out of it and yes it is frustrating to see scratches in the dye when you think you got them all.

Love the coloring on both pieces, Bob, but I'm kinda partial to the striking contrast on the second piece. The beading at the rim is a neat feature as well, and again, I prefer the second one.

Both pieces are beautiful. I have got to get past my apprehension of coloring pieces and try this!

I find I like the color a lot more on the tops of both of these as compared to the bottoms. Don't have the ambition to try and figure out why at the moment.
