I may tip my hand to any other Houston area creekers, but I have been keeping my eye open for any drill presses to add to the shop, and came across this Powermatic 1100 (http://houston.craigslist.org/tls/2837228874.html) for $525.

My question is if this is a good deal? (assuming upon inspection that everything runs fine and is in good condition)

If runout is OK, the drive belt and the chuck are in good shape, I would happily pay that. Solid 1100s - not to mention 1100 VS - aren't just laying around.

You realize, I assume, that with the Reeves drive for the VS, you will be signing up for some vibration at lower rpm...........nature of the beast...........

Hard to tell, but it looks like you did not even get a complete "arc of shame" in that production table........3d photo seems like some holes to stage right, but that's what you find.

I'm assuming you can supply correct flavor of electrons to the motor...........

Ummm, buy it... assuming it runs and doesn't bounce all over the place.

That isn't rock bottom pricing, the guy knows what he has, but he appears to have a cherry 1100 VS. If you look at prices the variable speed on any PM send it through the roof.

One thing certainly to take note of is if it is 3ph.

Excellent DP if everything is working. We had one of these in our staff shop at work.
It is an industrial machine, make sure it is not 3 phase.

Sure wish I had a VS. I am terrible lazy about changing the speeds on my drill press. I know what speeds I am supposed to be using, but I can get by just leaving it in the middle range somewhere. If you have a chance at a nice VS press, as big as that- oh ya, go for it.

Just get you a 3 phase motor and a VFD, infinate variable speed. Well worth it if you have a good press to begin with.
