Here is a distressed vanity to sort of simulate driftwood in color and wear

Here it is in its raw form. QSWO with a wire brush distressing using a drill.

The stain was weird to say the least.

You spray it on and it is white.

You rub it into the wood and it turns gray

After it dries it has a very blue tone to it for gray.

Then when you put a clear coat on it it shifts to a green tone.

After it dries it is finally the right color. What a roller coaster.

That’s a nice piece. I like the foot & corner detail.

The finish schedule sounds crazy!

It is pretty simple. Wipe the stain on and wipe it off. Hardest part was maintaining a consistent transparency. The rail below the long drawer front is a bit to opaque, but it is much less noticeable without the high power flash of the camera. Other than all the different shades that the stain goes through as it is applied, dried, clearcoated wet and clearcoated dry, it is like a normal stain job. But when I sprayed the first clearcoat and it had that greenish hue to it I just cringed. But about 7-8 minutes later as the conversion varnish started to flash off you could see the green hue slowly fading to the correct gray.

The legs were bought at Osborne Wood Products, #5005

Very interesting finish. Where did you get the idea?

Client said she wanted it to have a driftwood look. Simple as that.

In my humble opinion, that was a waste of some very nice QSWO. I liked it much better before you put that finish on it!

Well, it was wood paid for by another job, in the shop and available and I needed something with an open grain. If I had had some plain sliced white oak I would have used that. But I wasn't going to go out and buy more wood when it was available to me for free without having to travel to get it.
