I didn't want to hijack Jeff Whitaker's touching post about his Father's tool chest. However, it brought to mind the words of wisdom I received from my Grandfather. He was a carpenter rather tan a cabinetmaker but did do some finish work. I've listed some of his words below. Others care to contribute:

Seeing me half tapping at a 16d nail: "Boy, you're gonna wear that hammer out. Draw back and swing at that nail, and if you miss, draw back and swing again."

Seeing me choking up on a hammer: "Grab that handle by the end so you can swing that hammer." (Other comments about choking up on a hammer might violate the TOS here.)

During a roofing job: "You only need to hit that nail twice: once to start it and once to drive it. Otherwise, you're wasting time."

Seeing hammer marks on finish trim: "You can't be leaving tracks in the wood."
