We needed a clock above the fireplace in the basement so I decided to turn one. I bought the kit from Klockit and designed the wood frame. It measures 15 inches across and it was a fun project. I glued up some cherry and used a piece of plywood to mount the face. I textured the beads using my Burnmaster and included a little bead detail on the back. I do have one additional kit and want to make one that is even bigger, but I will end up having to turn it off the end of my Jet 1642. Thanks for looking.

I like that. Been wanting to turn a big ole clock myself. You did a great job with this one!

I turned some a few years ago, and they are fun to do. Really good job on that one, and it is just right for the location. Looks like it was made to fit there!

What a great looking project! I'm betting that scored major brownie points around the house!

Great looking clock. I've been working on one for a while now. I hope mine turns out as well as yours.

Very nice clock, you've given some good ideas here.

I noticed the numbers around the outside from 1 to 30, what's that for?

Very nicely done, and I know that that was a fun project. Making clocks was my passion before I started turning. I'll bet I have made a hundred or more. I have a Grandfather Clock in the attic completed except for the movement. We moved to this smaller house while I was making it and then found that I wouldn't have a place for it, so it never got finished. I have only turned one (see picture), that was back in 2009. The clock and pendulum came from Klockit.

Greg, glad this thread got revived - somehow I missed seeing it! Very nice work, and perfectly proportioned for the space over the mantle. The colors go well with the stone and the burned areas pick up on your accessories. Nice work!

Nice looking clock Greg. Thomas, it looks like a calendar clock to me. Red hand is on the 5, and Greg posted it on the fifth.

For those that are wondering about the outside numbers, those represent the day of the month. This was one of the largest dials I could find at 11 3/8. I would actually like to make a bigger clock so if someone knows of a source, please let me know.

thanks John. It was a fun project and not really that hard. I think getting the 8 segments cut at the right angle was that hard part. The burning was not too bad, except it took a long time to finish, probably a couple of hours. I thought it might be too small for the space, but you and more importantly my wife thought it was just right. I also made the mantel a few years back from a number of pieces of molding built it up to it's current shape.

OK... so how did I miss commenting on this one?? Sorry for getting to the party so late!

Very nice work on your clock! Looks right at home above your fireplace! Turning an even bigger clock will be a challenge - but I am looking forward to seeing it once completed!!
