Can anyone suggest a souce that would help a "helpless" novice figure out how to do marquetry. I've saw a program with David Marks who may or may not have made it look easy through the wonders of television. I gotta think there's alot more to it that that 1 hour couldn't show.

Thanks in advance for our help here.... Ken

Hi Ken, Go to www.marcadams.com and look for the area where he sells videos. He has one on marquetry and I think it is very informative and well done.
Also Silas Kopf has a dvd at this link. http://www.silaskopf.com/home_index.html I have not seen it so I can't comment.

There's a lot of good books that cover the subject better than any TV show could. I've seen very few videos that could equal a good book but I do better with books. Lincoln has a great book on marquetry and another one on veneering. www.cambiumbooks.com (http://www.cambiumbooks.com) is a great source of technical books and videos.

One specific book I really liked is "The Art of Marquetry" by Craig Stevens. It goes step by step through a few simple projects. He works with both thin and thick veneer and shows how to work both by hand and with a scroll saw.

I've taken a couple of workshops from Craig at Anderson Ranch in Colorado and he is a great instructor - very skilled and passionate, but laid back and patient. This book is an extension of his teaching style.

His site is http://www.cvstevens.com

I second Brad's recommendation for Craig's book - it's clear and focussed on a few techniques and takes you through a project from start to finish.
