It takes a bit to get going, but when it does, I can turn an entire tree in one shot. :D

I need one too. 2 hp is not enough!

Nice! I'm still working on my lathe motor - that's me below in the green hand tightening the crankshaft cap bolts... :D

Jon,

Are those ladders I see heading down the side of each port?

How many rotations will it get to the gallon of gas?

No concern about enough power to core a set of bowls I guess.

Dan,
Did you get the 6" wide bowl gouge with the 20' extension handle to go with it? LOL

This puppy comes in at 1,600 HP, and would run around 300 rpm... used up 96.5 gallons/hr. And I thought my 370Z got bad mileage!

The small town near where I live had 3 engines similar to this in the city owned power plant to run generators. They were diesel engines from WW2 era submarines. They junked them out and replaced them with 2 modern engines and generators. I wanted one of the pistons and connecting rods that were laying in the driveway but by thetime I got around to it they were gone. Should have realized that I could have got one to run my lathe with.

Way back in a previous life, I was a member of the USAF for a bit and I was what they called a "power production specialist". What that means is a guy who works on generators. Most of them were small portable units but for about a year I was assigned to a full on power plant. The generators were for backup but the engines were about that big. Here's another one (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/22/worlds-largest-diesel-engine-makes-109-000-horsepower/) that might allow larger turnings...

Getting a "catch" would take on a whole new meaning!

222461222462 Here's a picture of me starting my lathe engine - if only I could figure out how to connect the two together! It's actually one of 4 main engines on our ship, the Africa Mercy, when I was on board last year in Sierra Leone.

How did they keep this anchor from tipping over since it is so tall

Looks like quite an upgrade Dan! I didn't think that Robust would last long. I did assume it would at least make it to your shop though!;):)

I'd like to see Jeff Nichols come up with a steady rest for that baby!
