4.5" tall vase out of Pau Ferro (Bolivian Rosewood) that I had left from another project. Since it was such an expensive chunk of wood (to me!), I reserve the right to call it a "Vahhhz" instead of a vase!

Spray Deft gloss - left natural orange peel as "texture"! ;) It's heading to the school auction (http://thecommunityschool.net/event.php/) tomorrow night, along with a Herringbone pen. Comments/critiques welcome.

Reminds me of a old glass milk jug...

Great use of a spare chunk of wood. Let us know how it did at the auction.

You have a mighty fine finish there sir! IMHO...I'd like to see a little smaller booty on this one...and on me too! Nice job with some "spare" stuff!

Probably bears mentioning that this is my first hollowing attempt too, with some Sorby tools we found in my dad's shop when he died in 2007. Just unloaded that box a few weeks ago and found them. Granted it's not a big "vahhhz", and I didn't go too thin (probably just south of 1/4"), but it was fun.

Great looking 'vasz' for your first. Hope it does well at the auction!

I've never made one myself but I just hope when I do get to turn one that it turns as well as yours. Great job.

Both look good, I might have tucked the bottom of the vase a little more, but that's just a nit pick.

Nice work, Steve! The vahhz reminds me of a sake bottle. The herringbone pen is stellar!

Nice work on both items! How do you like hollowing??

Best of luck at the auction!

How do you like hollowing?? Thanks Steve - hollowing is still a work in progress, trying to get a good feel for that Sorby tool, cutting in the blind like that. It appears to be the Sorby SOV-RS100 - any tips/best practices would be appreciated.

Nice vahhz, but the pens ROCKS! Thanks Russell - Constant's kits make herringbones much easier (but still a pain!). I bought the "three pen kit", and messed up the second and third blanks. >^(

Best of luck at the auction!

No takers on the "vahz", but the pen went for $85. My wife and I directly sold some more of our craft show inventory and raised another $400+ for the school

I didn't see the pen picture when I responded earlier. I love it! Great fit and finish!
